Police have handed out nearly cautions to sex workers and kerb crawlers on the streets of Stoke-on-Trent. Police said a rise in prostitution in the city saw officers issue notices to sex workers while a further kerb crawlers have been made to attend courses to avoid prosecution after being caught tyring to pick up vice girls.

Another 12 men have been taken to court for soliciting in the city's red light districts in Cobridge, Burslem and Hanley. Now plain-clothed officers will be out on patrol to try to catch men and women in the act, reports StokeonTrentLive. It is just one tactic being used as part of Operation Calling - which was launched in - to clamp down on anti-social behaviour associated with prostitution blighting neighbourhoods.
Chief Inspector Mark Barlow, Stoke North Neighbourhood Policing Commander, said: "On street prostitution has been a problem in certain parts of the area for many years and particularly, over the last few years. We will detain those who use sex workers and we will deal with them using appropriate measures.
Police will also be working to support sex workers by directing them to agencies which can help them change their lifestyles. Chf Insp Barlow added: "We support the safeguarding of sex workers in the community but also recognises that enforcement is necessary.
