My columbian line was created by accident while I was away in England tending to family matters. On my return I found that birds with my three shades of yellow leg bands had all been mixed up. My golden salmon females, instead of being mated with a golden salmon male, had been mated with a wheaten male carrying silver. The result was a little yellow chick that feathered as a columbian. Unfortunately, the egg color from the hens produced by this match was disappointing. Sometimes it's possible to cross varieties and retain the egg color and other times it doesn't work at all.
